More Than Just Wine on the Vintage North Jersey Wine Trail November 12 & 13, 2016
Visitors to New Jersey’s northwest counties are often impressed with how much it looks like Napa in California, the Piedmont in Italy or the Rhone in France. Rolling hills, rivers and streams make this an ideal area for growing some of the state’s best grapes.
During the weekend of Saturday-Sunday, November 12-13, whether you start in the north most winery of Sussex County or the south most winery in Mercer, you can immerse yourself in wine country as you in join in Vintage North Jersey’s “More than Just Wine” weekend.
Starting at Ventimiglia Vineyards in Sussex County enjoy appetizers and tapas from Annabel’s Restaurant paired with their “food friendly” wines. You can order food for delivery to the winery from Annabel’s if you care to linger longer at their farm picnic tables and soak in the ambiance of a country farm. Or take your wine to Annabel’s to enjoy free of corking fees.
Across to border in Warren County is Brook Hollow Winery where you can enjoy their signature dry table wines while viewing an art exhibit from the Lakota Wolf Preserve located just down the road. Bring two canned goods for donation to local food banks, and receive your tasting free.
Four Sisters Winery also in Warren County will partner with Mackey’s Orchard & Bakery to pair dessert wine with pastries from Mackey’s Master Chef Alex. Enjoy two dessert samples with wine. Pick up some of their special fruit wines for holiday entertaining -
Robin’s Raspberry, Sadie’s Apple and Spicy Sisters are all holiday hits.
Villa Milagro Vineyards, also Warren County, will offer cheese samples from Classy Cow Creamy located in Berwick, PA. They will also pour their holiday wines, Gracias, Feliz Navidad and Mi Carino, for you to enjoy as you peruse a gallery display, “A Year in the Life of a Vineyard.” Bring a food donation for NORWESCAP and receive a gift for yourself.
Move across the border into Hunterdon County to find Beneduce Vineyards. While the winery is surrounded by farmland, it is also within easy distance of many sites, attractions and places to stay and dine. Search their information table to learn about these local options.
Local celebrity chef, Matt of Matt’s Red Rooster, will serve up samples of Roasted Fall Squash and Wild Mushroom soups paired with Unionville Vineyards wines. He will also take orders for your holiday soup needs. Learn how Unionville makes its award winning wines on a 2:30 tour daily.
Old York Cellars will team with Greensleeves Village Bakery of Flemington to offer samples of baked goods to pair with Old York wines. Greensleeves provides employment and services for disabled members of our community in conjunction with Allies, Inc. Bring a food donation for Flemington Food Panty and receive $1 off your tasting fee.
You can also start in the south and move north. South most of Vintage North Jersey wineries in Mercer County are Terhune Orchards and Winery and Hopewell Valley Vineyards.
Terhune Orchards Vineyard & Winery will offer a cup of their hot mulled wine as well as samples of wines made from fruits from their vineyard and orchard. They will also be pairing wines with chocolates from Carol’s Creative Chocolates and Fulper Family Farmstead cheeses. While there, visit their own farm store to sample pies. Over 20 pies and crisps are available for the holiday.
Slightly north in Mercer County is Hopewell Valley Vineyards. With their own kitchen and chefs, Hopewell will offer food samples paired with their finely crafted wines. Italian born owner, Sergio Neri, says, “Join Vintage North Jersey members for this weekend of Fun, Food & Vino!”
